Kiev-Odessa, January 20, 2010. International group of transport and logistics companies AsstrA has declared it would close down its Odessa subsidiary.

The Odessa subsidiary of AsstrA that used to provide international sea and container freight serrvices and support cargo handling in the ports of Odessa and Ilyichevsk will function for two more months. All consignments that are on the way with all formalities settled will be delivered on the terms stipulated. Subsidiary operations will be gradually reassigned to the employees of the container freight department of AsstrA office in Kiev during the period.

“It is no secret that the sea container freight market experienced a significant decline in 2008-2009, the volume of transportation and the amount of work the employees had to do was decreased accordingly. The decision to close the subsidiary down is a logical anti-crisis measure. Despite of the cuts, we remain a reliable and stable partner on the market. Our customers who used to work with AsstrA Odessa are welcome to contact the container freight department of the Kiev office on transportation issues”, comments Sergey Omelyaniuk, Head of AsstrA Ukraine. 

AsstrA was earlier reported to have launched air freight services through Odessa airport. This direction also functions through the Kiev office.
