Belarus, Russia plan through fares for transit cargoes

Belarus and Russia plan to introduce through fares on the transportation of transit cargoes, Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin told a press conference in Minsk on May 22.

“Russia and Belarus are elements of European transport corridor No 2 and we have agreed that it is necessary to form through fares for the entire length of the corridor,” said the Russian Railways CEO.

He remarked that with the through fares in place, the effectiveness of cargo transportation will largely increase. It will be accomplished if every member of the transport corridor has the sovereign right to set the tariffs instead of appealing to various bodies.

The Russian Railways President also said, the same day negotiations of the Russian Railways delegation with Belarusian Transport and Communication Minister Vladimir Sosnovsky had taken place. “We agreed that we will pursue a coordinated and uniform policy, without any unilateral increases in tariffs,” said Vladimir Yakunin.
